There has been considerable debate as to whether female animals experience orgasm. Bronowski, for instance has been prepared to declare that the human female is the only animal to experience orgasm. There is some inconclusive evidence that hermaphrodite snails can experience orgasm (e.g. rising curves of electrical excitement followed by discharge), and some evidence also that female rabbits experience orgasm. This question intrigued Kinsey and he wrote to various researchers who were supposed to know all about rabbits. Klein, for instance, wrote to Kinsey - "... I have very often observed a quite definite peak of response with climax, from which the female falls back abruptly into a quiet state...." Hammond too believed there was orgasm in female rabbits and female ferrets (with regard to the latter he wrote - "A film of copulation in the ferret would, I think, show you by the expression on the face of the female that an orgasm did occur.")
