It is hardly surprising that, in view of Kinsey's sexological contributions, the institute he founded at Indiana University should be the most famous in the world. Sometimes still referred to as the Kinsey Institute, its correct title is the Institute of Sex Research: it is a mark of the reputation of Kinsey himself that many people seem to be under the impression that the Institute died with its founder. The Institute's primary purpose is represented as the conducting of research into human sexual behaviour by gathering data analysing them and making the resultant information available to those who need it. The Institute is a nonprofit organisation governed by a board of trustees. A high percentage of the subjects being college and club women. In the library there is a vast archive of other sexological and erotic material: photographs, films, drawings, paintings, objets d'art, trinkets, diaries, love letters, records, etc. In recent years various police departments have contributed confiscated sexual material.
