In a number of the ancient temples a variety of animals were trained to copulate with women and to have intercourse per anum with men. Monkeys and baboons were encouraged to play with the genitals of both sexes. Attending priests accepted the customer's payment for this service. Use was also made of such creatures as dogs and goats in various establishments. In more recent times geese and turkeys have been placed at the disposal of frequenters of brothels in various parts of the world. A more frequent use of animals is in erotic displays: dogs, small horses, etc. have been made to copulate with women in front of a paying audience. Such practices still take place today.
