In general fewer people report dreams with orgasm than dreams without orgasm. Orgasmic dreams, in people without "overt experience," were most frequently connected with coitus in the Kinsey female survey - though here only 10 per cent of women reported orgasmic dreams of coitus.

The next most frequent type of dream - reported by seven per cent of women - was homosexual in character. Thirty-nine per cent of women "with experience prior to interview" reported orgasmic dreams of coitus - and the same percentage also noted orgasmic dreams in a non-coital heterosexual situation.

The most famous erotic novel in the French language, apart from those of the Marquis, is "Gamiani", attributed to Alfred de Musset. This book, hardly heard of in modern England, went through forty one editions before 1930. In one preface it is claimed that the author wrote it to prove that an erotic novel could be written without resort to "coarse" words.

Among masturbating females sixty per cent, according to Kinsey, indulge in heterosexual fantasy. This is hardly surprising since most females are heterosexual; only ten per cent of women had homosexual fantasies while masturbating.

The most famous lesbian in history is without doubt Sappho of Lesbos, born in the seventh century B.C. Praised by the Greeks for her sublime poetry she was variously depicted "the tenth Muse", "the marvel among women", etc.

The first open and avowed organisation to cater exclusively for lesbian interests was in Britain.

Established at the beginning of 1964 under the title, Minorities Research Group (M.R.G.), it followed an article, "A quick look at lesbians," by a journalist Dilys Rowe, which appeared in "Twentieth Century" (winter 1962-3, pp. 67-72).

Two Irishwomen, Lady Eleanor Butler, whose brother was Earl of Ormonde, and Miss Sarah Ponsonby, a cousin of the Earl of Bessborough, pioneered a type of lesbian relationship in the eighteenth century.

In 1921 a new Criminal Law Amendment Act was introduced into the House of Commons as a Private Member's measure. During the report stage, after the Bill had been considered by a standing committee, a Scottish conservative lawyer and son of the manse, Frederick Macquisten, representing one of the Glasgow divisions, moved the following new clause under the heading of "Acts of Indecency by females"
