Brothels first introduced in England
Again it all depends what you mean by... Henry II organised the "stews" (bathhouses with
opportunity for sex)
in 1161. And the famous "seraglios" were introduced in 1750. A certain Mrs. Goadby had
visited the French
sérails, esp. those of Justine, Paris and Montigny: in all such establishments high
standards were maintained; many
beautiful girls were employed with various talents. Mrs. Goadby even went so far as to employ
a physician to
look after the health of the girls; and she imported fine silks from France. The result of such
enterprise was that
she became extremely wealthy and later retired to the country.
