Again it all depends what you mean by... Henry II organised the "stews" (bathhouses with opportunity for sex) in 1161. And the famous "seraglios" were introduced in 1750. A certain Mrs. Goadby had visited the French sérails, esp. those of Justine, Paris and Montigny: in all such establishments high standards were maintained; many beautiful girls were employed with various talents. Mrs. Goadby even went so far as to employ a physician to look after the health of the girls; and she imported fine silks from France. The result of such enterprise was that she became extremely wealthy and later retired to the country.
